Built By Students Who Couldn't Find A Flat Big Enough
BigFlats was created to solve a problem we experienced ourselves while studying in Wellington.
Where BigFlats Started
As Victoria University students in 2007, we lived in a university hall and became close friends with everyone on our floor.
When the year ended, we wanted to keep living together.
There was just one problem.
Finding accommodation for a large group was nearly impossible.
Property websites were full of small houses, apartments and standard rentals, but very few options for groups of six, eight, ten or more people.
Instead of finding one place together, everyone ended up scattered across Wellington.
A group of friends who wanted to live together ended up spread across Wellington simply because suitable accommodation was difficult to find.
Years later, we realised the problem hadn't gone away.
Students were still struggling to find larger flats.
Landlords with larger properties were still struggling to reach the right tenants.
And nobody seemed focused on solving the problem.
So we created BigFlats.
